Café at St Mary's - Opportunity to Operate
Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) are looking for great local catering businesses in Shropshire who may be interested in operating out of the site at St Mary’s, Shrewsbury. Jules, of the Café by the Riverside, has had the exciting opportunity to expand her core business and is therefore focussing on this opportunity.
The church is ideally situated in the centre of town, close to local bus stops and has been a local landmark for centuries. It attracts around 70,000 visitors per year, and is a great place to meet, so there is ample opportunity for an entrepreneurial owner to build a good, sustainable business. There is also a lively programme of events taking place in the church that provides an additional opportunity for sales.
The café operates out of the cosy vestry space (30 covers), with the possibility of additional seating options in St Nicholas’ Chapel (space for 12 covers) and outdoor space (space for 16 covers) – offering a potential total of 58 covers. The vestry is fully equipped with catering equipment and café furniture which, accompanies any operating agreement as required.
Judith Patrick, CCT Head of Region says: “St Mary’s is a beautiful historic building used for a large variety of different activities, with a great footfall, and is well positioned at the heart of Shrewsbury to link into town activities. The café space provides a great opportunity for a local enterprise to start up or expand and we’d love to chat about any creative ideas that people may have.”
