The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) today launches an appeal to help address a £500,000 loss of income caused by the closure of sites during the Covid-19 crisis.

Sites have been closed at the very time of year when most activity takes place. Normally churches would be hosting community events, local fundraising activities and visitors would be making donations in the wall-safe.

‘The 356 historic churches in CCT’s care tell the story of place: the hopes and fears of generations are embedded in their stones and mortar. They have withstood plague and rebellion, pestilence and war. The danger is we take their presence for granted while they fall victim to creeping decline.’

CCT is asking for donations to towards the appeal which will help to get churches back open again, to address ongoing maintenance and to support these buildings and their communities.
