'Landmarks' book helping Northampton

13 Dec 2011

A local artist has spent many hours working on his book which contains painstaking pen and ink drawings of the 283 churches in Northamptonshire. Ten of these churches are cared for by CCT. Derek retired in 1984 and decided to spend his time walking travelling and drawing.

The book represents hundreds of hours worth of work as each individual drawing took an average of two hours to complete.

Derek said: “I mainly start by doing a rough sketch, and then I take a picture and do a proper sketch when I get back home. It does take about two hours but I enjoy it. The book has been endorsed by the Bishop of Peterborough and I have given him the •Ârst copy.”

To •Ând out how to purchase one of Derek’s books, prints or greetings cards, you can visit his website. Copies of the book are also available at Waterstone’s, Northampton, and at Manna House Bookshop in St Giles Street. Landmarks – Parish Churches in Northamptonshire is available priced £15.99. A £2 donation from the sale of each book will go to the Churches Conservation Trust.
