Designing interactive displays for Quay Place

In order to offer our younger visitors the best possible welcome to Quay Place - the wellbeing heritage centre we are creating at the Church of St Mary-at-the-Quay in Ipswich in partnership with Suffolk Mind - we have enlisted the expertise of furniture designer & maker Tim Germain and Ipswich stalwart Des Pawson MBE, one of he world’s leading authorities on knots and sailors’ ropework.

Pictured above are Tim and Des finalising the designs for the Dock Play table which will be one of the interactive interpretation pieces in Quay Place, telling the stories of Ipswich's rich maritime history.

Although we are sure the play table will be a fun for children, we will use a map from 1962 to name the quays, wharves and businesses as they will be within living memory of our older visitors who want to play.
