Traditional Churchyard Management - Clungunford
Learn how to manage a churchyard in the traditional fashion - with a scythe!
As part of Church Tourism Week 2017 churchyard charity Caring for God’s Acre will demonstrate how to manage churchyards in the traditional way using the scythe.
Before the widespread use of the mower, churchyards were left to flower during the summer months and then scythed in late July. Hay was made and was given to the vicar as part of his stipend. During this day our volunteers (who manage churchyards using scythes every week) will be peacefully scything while Ben, our volunteer co-ordinator, will be on hand to answer any questions.
