The Black Shuck Festival - in Bungay
St Mary's Church, Bungay, Suffolk
Legend has it that during a terrible storm on 4th August 1577 a hellish black dog ran amok in the church, wreaking havoc and killing and maiming the terrified congregants. The Black Shuck Festival retells this story to delighted audiences.
The Black Shuck Festival is a celebration of Bungay’s mythological and cultural heritage. This local legend has resonated with the community down the ages and we tell this story, and other local myths and mysteries, through artistic performances in song, music, dance, drama and storytelling.
