Learn more about historical graffiti with this free lecture in York!

Have you ever seen scratches on an old wall and wondered what they mean? Historic graffiti, often found on the walls of medieval churches, serve as a fascinating time capsule for historians and archaeologists. Drawings and writing in these spaces give us glimpses into the stories of past communities and people. Join us in the unique setting of Holy Trinity, Goodramgate as we learn about what graffiti is, how it has changed over time, and what it tells us about the people of the past.

Feel free to spend time exploring Holy Trinity Goodramgate after the talk to see what you can find.

Once you start looking, you won't be able to stop graffiti spotting as you explore York's historic buildings with York Unlocked throughout the weekend.

Please note that although the building is generally wheelchair accessible save for the Sunken Chapel, the floors are uneven and light levels low throughout.

The inside temperature is also usually colder than outside so do wrap up warmly. Blankets are available on request.
