As a partner event to York Ghost Week 2024, join us on All Saints Day for a 20-minute tour by candlelight & torchlight. Parts of the beautiful Holy Trinity Church have stood for 800 years and during that time thousands of York citizens have left their mark within its walls. Crossing the threshold is like stepping back in time to the 1880s. Holy Trinity Volunteers will take you on candlelit tours to hear tales of tragedy, charity, murder and misdeeds, love, loss and lamb chops! Let them reveal to you some of the stories of those parishioners for whom this is their final resting place, discover why the unusual box pews became fashionable in the 17th century and how they survived and why it is one of the only buildings in the city that still relies on candles for illumination.

Tickets for the tours are £5.00 each plus Eventbrite booking fee with a capacity of 8 people per session.

The site will be candlelit and we will be exploring both inside and out in the churchyard by torchlight, so group sizes will be small, surfaces uneven and care will be needed.

The church will be accessed through the main gate on Goodramgate. Unfortunately, wheelchair access around the churchyard is not possible due to soft ground and lack of pathways. This event is suitable for families or adults, but not younger children (under 12). Children under 12 and big kids of all ages are very welcome to join us on Monday 28 October for a Candlelit Mouse Hunt, drop in any time between 6pm and 8pm (free, but donations welcome).
