Historic Church Tour 2023: The Spires and Towers of Louth and Lincolnshire - PAST
Discover gems across Louth and Lincolnshire and see how each design has influenced the next as well as their surrounding landscapes.
Please note that this tour has now taken place, however, due to the popularity of this event we have arranged it to repeat on 16th August. If you wish to attend this later tour, you can do so here.
The first stop will be St Benedict’s Church, Haltham-on-Bain, a Norman church with stunning features, such as the east window, 17th-century pulpit, and the Royal Arms of Charles I.
Then we move to St James’ Church, Louth, in the centre of the market town lies a 13th-century church that boasts the 3rd tallest spire in the United Kingdom.
Next, we will explore the splendour of St Andrew’s Church, Stewton, featuring Saxon, and early Norman elements, this church features a chancel, nave, vestry, west porch, and a bell-cote containing one bell.
The fourth stop will be at All Saints Church, Haugham, modelled on St James’ Church in Louth with its soaring spire but is clearly distinguished by its 19th-century features.
Travel: Depart Lincoln train station at 09:45, returning to the station by 17:00.
