English Haydn Festival - Bridgnorth
St Leonard's Church, Bridgnorth, Shropshire
The 2017 Festival theme celebrates 'Haydn Across the Years' with a captivating programme of music from Haydn and his contemporaries.
The prestigious annual English Haydn Festival returns to Bridgnorth from 7th-11th June 2017, with a fascinating theme celebrating Joseph Haydn's musical influence from the classical period through to the present day.
Performers at this year's Festival will include The English Haydn Orchestra, leading period instrument ensemble The Florilegium Quintet, and The Quatuor Mosaiques - one of the first string quartets devoted to authentic performance practices. Alongside works by Haydn there will be performances of favourites from Mendelssohn, Beethoven, and Mozart. Often called the father of the string quartet, this year Haydn’s music is reborn within a newly commissioned quartet written by the distinguished English composer Luke Bedford, to be performed by the Salomon Quartet in a particular Festival highlight.
