Gloucestershire: Along the Thames in the southern Cotswolds
A riverside walk taking in three Cotswold villages and an extraordinary church
A truly wonderful walk on the southern borders of the Cotswolds, starting from Lechlade and walking on the Thames Path to the historic villages of Inglesham and Buscot.
Along the route lies the remarkable medieval Church of St John the Baptist, saved from Victorian '"improvements" by William Morris. Beautifully atmospheric and perfectly formed, its packed with layers of wallpainting from the 13th to 19th centuries. (From here long distance walkers are spoilt for choice as the Thames Path meets Wiltshire's famous Ridgeway).
As if picturesque Lechlade, our extraordinary church and the beautiful natural landscape weren't enough, Buscot is home to the smallest lock on the Thames as well as a magnificent weir and Buscot Parsonage, both managed by the National Trust.
