Church Gossip is the result, a series of six podcasts in which people who have been heavily involved in the restoration of the church at all levels share stories about the restoration process and their part in it.

Each podcast includes an interview, reflections and observations from our banter team of Kath, Lili, Amanda, Alex and Dominic and a local story. So settle yourself in this marvellous space and enjoy listening.

The bonus features;
We’d like to thank Terry Dearey, Jonathan Spencer and Vera Vincent for adding another dimension to the podcasts. Author Terry (of Horrible Histories fame) had written some stories based on true events in the Old Sunderland area dating back to the 18th century. These were originally published in the Sunderland Echo and for the podcasts we asked actor Jonathan to read them for us. Terry and Jonathan were both born in Sunderland and have a strong affection for the area. The mix of Terry’s writing and Jonathan’s reading brings the often gruesome stories to life.

Rounding off the story sections of our podcasts are two pieces recorded with Vera Vincent whose life is inextricably linked to the church specifically and Old Sunderland generally. In her first story she tells us about the worship life of the church and her role as organist, which had its moments. In the second story she relays the tale of her grandmother’s experience of air raid shelters during world war two.
