About this church

An exemplar of medieval elegance

This elegant medieval church sits next to the great Baroque stately home of Burley-on-the-Hill built in the 1690s, but the church itself dates from four centuries earlier. It was largely rebuilt by JL Pearson in 1868-70 but evidence of the Medieval building remains, notably in the tower, the arcades and the fine fifteenth-century font.

The church contains a beautiful eighteenth-century memorial to Lady Charlotte Finch, who was a governess to George III's children and also the inventor of the wooden jigsaw!

There is also a notable clock by Joseph Knibb.
