Seminar 4 This Unpleasant Affair

You may need smelling salts for this one. Why was Sunderland so publically criticised because of the outbreak of Cholera in 1831-32? Find out in this section. We will also look at the great Public Health debate in the 19th Century.

Local historian Stuart Miller examines six aspects of the development of modern Sunderland from the 1780s to the 1880s.

Each session will last for two hours including a break of 30 minutes to sample the coffee and cake of the Seventeen Nineteen coffee corner.

No prior knowledge is required. Simply an interest in the history of Sunderland, and a sense of humour!
